APAC fundraiser celebrates another successful season BY LUKE TABET [email protected] The Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC) held a fundraiser last week, attended by supporters, actors and friends of the company. The event marked the end of the 12th season, which featured a number of plays, including the New York premier of the Gregory S. Moss’s “House of Gold.” “We invited everyone who worked so hard with us and supported us,” said APAC executive director Taryn Sacramone, who organized the event. “It’s great to have everyone come and have a good time.” The fundraiser was sponsored in part by Kaufman Astoria Studios, Borough Magazine, and We Heart Astoria. Funds up to $2,000 were matched by Investors Bank, according to Sacramone, meaning the event raised $4,000 total. “It’s very cool, it feels good to know our community supports us,” she said. Raffle tickets were sold, with a number of prizes up for grabs such as 10 hours of free rehearsal space, gift certificates and more. “This is great,” said Britain Gerbhardt, one of the stars of APAC’s musical “Blood Brothers.” “We had a lot of fun.” USTA job fair draws crowds BY LUKE TABET [email protected] The United State Tennis Association (USTA) held its third annual job fair in Flushing this past Thursday and Friday. The event , held at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, provided the public with the chance to interview for a variety of jobs that need to be filled for the US Open. Job seekers we able to meet and speak with the U.S. Open staff as well as vendors about available positions such as cooks, drivers, maintenance workers, security personnel, cashiers and customer service representatives. Applications were made available online for job seekers to fill out prior to the event. The first day of the job fair was open exclusively to Queens residents, while the second day was open to the public. “We were delighted to once again host the job fair at which job seekers got an opportunity to learn about and interview for some of the most sought-after positions at the Open,” said Danny Zausner, Chief PHOTO COURTESY OF USTA Job seekers speak to USTA representatives at last week’s job fair.
