The last time the Queens powerhouse made the fi nal game was in 1988 against George Washington High School. This year, the Judges defeated second seeded George Washington in the best of three semifi nal series to reach the championship game at Yankee Stadium on June 12. Seniors Chris Campbell, Keith Rodgers and David Lim led Cardozo this season. Rodgers has been the most impressive, fi nishing the season with a .569 batting average. As the team’s ace, Rodgers was 7-0 during the season with a 0.02 ERA. In the playoffs he is 3-0 with a 0.04 ERA. To win the title, Cardozo will have to go through perennial city powerhouse Tottenville High School of Staten Island. “We are sort of the Rocky Balboa going against Apollo Creed,” head coach Ron Gorecki said. “Tottenville has the players and they have the history. Cardozo has been out of history for 26 years.” Red Hawks poised for back-to-back titles The High School of Construction Red Hawks softball team is just one game away from its second straight city title. The Hawks fl ew through the regular season (15-1 PSAL) to win the Queens A conference crown and breezed past teams in the playoffs to reach the fi nal game. The championship game will be a replay of last year, as the Hawks face Tottenville High School of Staten Island at St. John’s University on June 8. Senior pitcher Britney Rodriguez, who led the league with 163 strikeouts, is looking to cap her high school career with another championship.
