Packaging Depot USA is a Long Island City-based company that sells packaging materials at wholesale prices. After seeing the expensive prices for shipping materials at other stores, business partners Charles Rick and Greg Pippo knew they had to change this. “We knew there was a demand for shippers and moving companies to get boxes at wholesale prices,” said Rick. “We were surprised that no one had done this yet.” Packaging Depot USA sells packing and moving materials on a large scale (“Picture a store like Restaurant Depot or Home Depot, but for moving,” Rick said). Their main focuses are on those in the airline industry, moving industry, export shippers, art galleries and movie industry. Rick is no stranger to the packaging industry. You could even say that packaging runs in the family. “My parents forged the way and did an amazing job building a platform for us,” said Rick. “I couldn’t have started Packaging Depot USA without them.” Packaging Depot USA currently services the five boroughs, New Jersey and Connecticut, however, they have big plans for expanding into all 50 states. “We’re planning to open up a location in every major city,” says Rick. “From there, we’ll see where the demand is and expand further.” Beyond the United States, Rick sees that there is a huge market for shipping overseas, including the Caribbean. In addition to offering standard packaging materials, Packaging Depot USA has adopted its parent company’s Green Initiative, which allows consumers to choose from environmentally friendly options. “We feel very strongly about being environmentally conscious,” said Rick. “We offer a lot of products that have green alternatives or are made of biodegradable material.” With 60 years of family experience and relationships to draw from, Packaging Depot USA is equipped to handle all aspects of packaging but how is it that they’ve managed to stay on top in this industry? “We’re always creative and always proactive,” says Rick. “When we’re featuring a new product, we’ll go to trade shows all around the world.” Packaging Depot USA is located at 45-42 37th Street in Long Island City.
