102 THE sports QUEENS COURIER • MAY 4, 2017 FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT WWW.QNS.COM RA Flyers open outdoor season with several wins BY ANTHONY GIUDICE agiudice@ridgewoodtimes.com @A_GiudiceReport The St. Margaret’s/ Resurrection Ascension Flyers began their outdoor season on Sunday, April 23 at Astoria Park, and wasted little time bringing home gold, silver and bronze medals with impressive performances up and down the roster. Th e junior boys won the gold for their 1200-meter medley. Taking fi rst place were Ricky Hubert, Victor Ostling, Elias Mulligan and Kacper Niepokoj. Senior boys Owen Kelly, Sean Reilly, John Boger and Nicholas Catapano earned silver medals for their second place fi nish in the 1200-meter medley. Th e Flyers’ bronze medal recipients included bantam girl Aileen Mitorotonda for her 200-meter run, novice boys Frank Santoro, Anthony Pedicini, James Gordon, and Finn Healing for the 600- meter medley relay, along with bantam boys Josiah Boulet, Kevin Isca, Th omas Fischer and Conn Reilly for their 600-meter medley relay. Th e coaches would also like to congratulate peewees Olivia Santoro, Sadie Donahue, Emily Pedicini, Jenna Giff one, Jake Giff one, and Dylan Isca for their amazing performance BWG U16 Academy impress in win over NYCFC BY ANTHONY GIUDICE agiudice@ridgewoodtimes.com @A_GiudiceReport Th e Blau Weiss Gottschee (BWG) youth soccer teams had an up-anddown weekend with the U16 Academy team pulling off an impressive win, and the BWG 14 Academy team suff ering a tough loss. First, the BWG U16 Academy team won the battle of New York as they defeated a very talented New York City Football Club (NYCFC) U16 team by a score of 1-0. Th is win completes the double for the BWG crew this season as they previously beat NYCFC in the fall, giving BWG bragging rights for the year. With the victory, BWG is now in fi rst place in the Northeast Division. Th e BWG 14 Academy team did not have as good an outing. Th e team lost to the NYCFC 14 group by a score of 2-0. BWG had some prime opportunities in the fi rst half when the score was tied at 0 to net a goal, but failed to capitalize.
