Smith has been the Assistant Head Varsity Coach at Holy Cross since 2012. Smith attended Samuel J. Tilden High School where he was an All-League Football Player and All League Baseball Player. After he graduated, Smith attended Pratt Institute where he majored in construction management, then joined the New York City Fire Department in 1992. He played for the FDNY’’s football team from 1993-1999 and coached them from 2000-2003, culminating the final season with a National Championship win. He started his coaching career at Holy Cross as a Junior Varsity Coach from 1997-1999, then took a position as Defensive Coordinator at Cardinal Hayes from 2000-2002 before returning to Holy Cross as Defensive Coordinator from 2002-2003. He spent the 2003-2004 season as Offensive Coach at St. Francis Prep before taking a Head Coach position at Nazareth Regional High School. Smith returned to Holy Cross as Defensive Coordinator in 2006 before being appointed Assistant Head Varsity Coach. Pugh credits Smith for much of the success of the program over the last three years. “Tim is considered one of the best defensive coaches in the league. The plan has been to move him into my position when I retired. He’s done a heck of a job.” For his part, Smith is honored to be taking the place of someone so revered in the football community. “Coach Pugh has been my longtime friend and mentor and it is going to be a challenge to fill those shoes,” he remarked. “I am very excited that they chose me for this position.” Smith rose in the ranks at the FDNY to Captain and is currently assigned to the Community Affairs Unit. He and his wife, Ceren, an officer with the NYPD, reside in Brooklyn with their children Trinity and Jaeden. Trinity is currently attending St. Francis Prep and Jaeden is a student at M.S. 282. His son, Jerell, was a standout football player at St. Francis Prep who went on to have a tremendous career at Bryant University. His older son and namesake, Timothy, is a 2000 graduate of Holy Cross who played football for Pugh and went on to become the starting tailback at St. Francis University in PA. He received his Master’s Degree from Widener University and he currently lives in Wilmington, Delaware where he works as an IT auditor for Capital One Bank. When asked to comment on his future prospects for the team, Smith remarked “Coach Pugh and Coach Aufieri have done a masterful job of making Holy Cross one the elite football programs in the Catholic High School Football League. We have some very good returning players that will work hard to reach their full potential as student athletes. With continued support from our faculty, coupled with dedication from players and coaches, I know that our program will be successful in developing good football players and great men.” He concluded with a favorite quote by Mark Twain, “The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” Photo: Newly appointed Head Varsity Football Coach Timothy Smith (right) with retired Coach Tom Pugh and St. Francis Prep Coach Vince O’Connor. *COUPONS MUST BE USED FOR ALL SPECIALS NOW Expires 5/15/15 - CHANGE ANTI-FREEZE - OIL CHANGE - ROTATE TIRES - CHANGE TRANSMISSION FLUID - INSPECT & ADJUST BRAKES - A/C CHECK Expires 5/15/15 Expires 5/15/15 “We’re Always On TARGET” When It Comes To Automotive Repairs Guaranteed Specializing In Collision & Automotive Diagnostic Repair ASE & NYS Certified • Nationally Warranteed By Pronto SPRING SPECIAL $12500 AXLE REPLACEMENT REDUCED TO: $9500 MOST CARS Expires 5/15/15 OFFICIAL NYS INSPECTION STATION SERPENTINE BELT SPECIAL $14500 FOR SAVE $50 REG $9500
