The suspect followed the woman as she was entering her building about 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, and got into the elevator with her, according to officials. When she opened her apartment door and started to go inside, the suspect pushed her, grabbed her handbag, which contained cash, and fled, police said. The woman was taken to New York Hospital Queens with a fractured bone in her leg, cops said. Police said the suspect, who is possibly a white or Hispanic man and 30 to 40 years old, was also wearing a dark jacket and carrying a tool bag. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477). 112TH PRECINCT Forest Hills and Rego Park Suspect swiping checks from Queens mailboxes A suspect has been raiding Queens mailboxes for checks, then cashing them in for larger amounts of money, according to police. Cops said eight thefts have taken place around Yellowstone Boulevard or 108th Street between Dec. 29 and March 22. After the checks were removed from the mailboxes, they were each altered to a larger sum of money and deposited into ATMs, officials said. The suspect or suspects then took the cash from the accounts. Police have released a photo of a suspect taken from a Bank of America ATM taken at 248 East Fordham Rd. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS (8477). 114TH PRECINCT Astoria, Long Island City, Woodside and Jackson Heights Woman’s body found washed up near Astoria Park The body of a woman was found washed up on the Astoria shoreline, according to the NYPD. The unidentified woman was found unresponsive about 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 5, near Astoria Park South and Shore Boulevard, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was badly decomposed. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death and the investigation remains ongoing, cops said. The victim told police that during an altercation between the cabbies and himself outside of Terminal 8 about 4:30 p.m. on Monday, April 7, one of the men, Wayne Walker, 41, started to chase and threaten him with a knife. After officers at the scene told the other driver, Junior Rowe, 30, to stop, he allegedly escaped in his Ford Taurus. Rowe almost struck the officers as he sped off, police said. When Rowe was forced to stop in traffic, he was removed from his car and arrested by police, according to officials. The weapon, described in detail by the victim, was allegedly found on the floor of Walker’s car. He was also arrested, police said. No one was injured during the incident and no flights were delayed. Rowe, of Woodhaven, was charged with attempted assault on a police officer, menacing, reckless endangerment, obstructing governmental administration and disorderly conduct, police said. Walker, a Springfield Gardens resident, was charged with menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct.
