Annette Vallone-Rocchio, director of Precious Moments Nursery School and Day Care in Maspeth and Whitestone, expressed her excitement over the expansion. The Whitestone location already has a UPK program. Precious Moments’ Whitestone school opened in 1992, followed three years later by the Maspeth location. Vallone-Rocchio noted the schools opened to address the need for day care and after-school activities in both neighborhoods. Adding UPK — a city-supported program offering free education for 4-year-olds — fulfi lls yet another growing need in Maspeth, she added. Both Precious Moments locations, Vallone-Rocchio noted, will also offer expanded summer day camps featuring a variety of activities including weekly trips, acting, singing, performances, theme parks, movies, museums, paintings and music lessons. The camps are quickly fi lling up, and there are about 25 seats available at each location. “We are doing a tremendous amount of work at the Maspeth school,” she added. “We have newly remodeled rooms at both schools that are beautiful.” Looking ahead, Vallone-Rocchio hopes to add an indoor classroom at the Maspeth school. The Whitestone location’s indoor playground proved quite popular during the winter months. She offered much credit to the teachers at both locations for instilling a nurturing and caring environment, fulfi lling her personal motto and commitment to children.
