Open every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. through late October, the market features entrepreneurial chefs serving the best in global cuisine. Th ere are also plenty of fl ea vendors off ering artwork and handcraft ed, vintage or curated items. Visitors can also enjoy the LIC Flea Beer & Wine Garden, which will be serving up local craft beers from breweries right in Queens. Th e beer and wine menu will expand with varied special events throughout the season, including the annual Queens Beer Festival, the Taco Takedown Fest and the Wine & Sweets Festival. Opening night was scheduled to take place on the evening of Tuesday, March 14, but the screening was canceled due to snow. However, the opening night party took place on March 14 from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Armondo’s Italian Restaurant in Jackson Heights. Th is year, the festival is honoring Queens native Julie Dash with the 2017 Spirit of Queens Award for her “outstanding contribution to cinema,” according to organizers. Dash, a Long Island City native, produced, wrote and directed “Daughters of the Dust,” the fi rst full-length feature fi lm by an African-American woman with general theatrical release in the United States. Th e fi lm’s March 15 screening will be followed by a Q&A with Greg Tate. Th e festival will take place through March 19 at several theaters, including the Zukor Th eater at Kaufman Astoria Studios and the Redstone and Bartos theaters at MoMI. Films are presented in blocks and are separated by similar themes. Th ere will be four fi lms about the undocumented immigrant experience, four fi lms that will chronicle stories about people with challenging mental health conditions, LGBT fi lms, animated fi lms and more. Queens fi lmmakers will also be highlighted during the Queens Corner block. In total, 23 fi lms from locals will be screened throughout the week, but a number of them will be shown at 4:30 p.m. on March 19 at the Redstone Th eater.
