Th e home, located at 50-19 175th Pl., was sealed and put up for auction by the Queens County Public Administrator in December of 2016 aft er the offi ce was appointed administrator of the property. Th e sale closed in late February, according to a release from state Senator Tony Avella. Th e residence had been left to disrepair aft er the original property owner, Stella Beckman, died over 10 years ago, and her son Franklin Beckman, who was named administrator of the property, could not be located. Raising quality-of-life concerns, residents complained of overgrown vegetation, a raccoon problem and a cavedin roof at the location. Neighbors were most concerned about two derelict cars parked in the driveway fi lled with newspapers and debris that posed the risk of a second fi re breaking out at the location aft er a fi rst erupted within the home a few years prior. Th e cars have since been removed from the premises and the exterior of the property has been cleaned up. “I am extremely happy to be able to tell the community today that, as a result of the relentless eff orts of my offi ce and the incredible help of the Public Administrator, that this property is no longer going to haunt the community,” Avella said. “Being able to get this house sold will certainly go a long way in returning a better quality of life to the neighbors who had to live with this hazardous property on their block. I hope that this sale can also set a precedent for the control and auction of the many other zombie properties that haunt communities across the city.” QNS fi le photo
