20 THE QUEENS COURIER • FEBRUARY 23, 2017 FOR BREAKING NEWS VISIT WWW.QNS.COM ST. FRANCIS PREP TO HONOR STANDOUT ATHLETES AND TEAMS AT GALA EVENT St. Francis Prep is pleased to announce our 2nd Red and Blue Terrier Ring of Honor Gala Event to be held on Saturday evening, March 18th, 2017 at the Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury on Long Island. At our inaugural event in March of 2014, we inducted, into our “athletic hall of fame,” 68 past athletes, coaches, moderators and athletic directors, each of whom contributed greatly to the Prep’s proud sports history. The event was an extraordinary celebration attended by 750 alumni and friends of Prep. Prep has once again established a distinguished Red and Blue Terrier Ring of Honor Committee that has been planning for this upcoming event over the past year, and selecting our next class of honorees. In addition to athletes, coaches, moderators, and athletic directors (a total of 61 new honorees next month), we will, for the first time, also be celebrating the accomplishments of four great championship teams: 1966 Football, 1956-57 Cross-country/Indoor & Outdoor Track, 1980 Women’s Basketball and 1984 Softball. Alumni-athletes, coaches, athletic directors, moderators and others who have made a significant contribution to the Prep’s great sports legacy are eligible to be considered as individual honorees. They must have outstanding athletic accomplishments in one or more sports, including participation that resulted in individual and/or team championships, as well as successful participation in college and/or professional athletics. They must be an alumnus of Prep for 10 years or more, and have demonstrated outstanding character and leadership qualities. For a Championship Team to be eligible, they must be a CHSAA, City and/or State Champion. They should also be one of the best teams to ever participate in that sport in the history of Prep, and should have attained a NY State and/or national ranking for a particular year in that sport. They should also have received outstanding team awards in other competitions. One of the Golden Links of Franciscan education is Physical, and Prep’s great legacy is represented today by no less than 20 sports, and countless championships and accolades.
