Edwards has worked extensively with the South Queens Boys and Girls Club since he was 7 years old. He has participated in the annual fashion show, become co-captain and the top defender on the boys’ traveling basketball team and has participated in over 20 community service activities that has given him over 300 hours of community service. After high school, Edwards hopes to attend Lincoln Technical Institute to study automotives. OLUFEMI ADEONIGBAGBE Olufemi Adeonigbagbe, affectionately referred to as “Femi,” is currently a senior at Thomas Edison High School. As well as being a solid B average student, he has been an active participant in the College Readiness program for two years, and is a long-standing member of Thomas Edison’s MOUSE Squad, which provides technical computer assistance for both his peers and teachers. Adeonigbagbe is also a member of his school’s Student Leadership Council, in which he has helped plan and facilitate various activities promoting multiculturalism and school pride. As part of the council, he has also attended leadership conferences in Washington D.C. and Missouri. Outside of school, Adeonigbagbe has volunteered with organizations such as Skills USA, spent time at the Bowery Soup Kitchen, participated in the NYC Aids Walk and raised funds for HIV/AIDS research. In the future, he plans to pursue a degree in criminal justice, sociology and/or psychology. SILAKA COX Silaka Cox, a resident of Far Rockaway, is a senior at Scholars Academy. She has been actively involved in sports and extracurricular activities since elementary school, including basketball, tennis and her high school’s multicultural dance team. She is also a student government representative, Vice President of the Key Club and a peer tutor. In November 2011, Cox was recruited into the Rockaway Youth Task Force (RYTF), and she knew that she wanted to join and make a different in the community among the youth. Her goal as an RYTF member is to promote positive change within the community among adults and teens, and because of her involvement with the task force, she received an internship working for Ready Rockaway, a local emergency preparedness organization. In the future, Cox hopes to go to college to study science or business. ZOE PERRY Zoe Perry, a senior at Long Island City High School, maintains an A average as well as a rigorous schedule. She is enrolled in four Advanced Placement (AP) classes, and is interested mainly in biology and environmental sciences. Perry has a great amount of volunteer experience, including assisting the Children’s Librarian’s interactive activities of the Langston Hughes Community Library’s summer reading program, has participated in reading circles and craft sessions in the library’s Children’s Room, and worked with the summer homework program. She also has volunteered as a blood drive assistant at her high school. In preparation for college, Perry has applied to a number of colleges, hoping to secure her future. She has applied to SUNY Stony Brook, Syracuse, Catholic University of America, Penn State, and many more. JOSEPHINE O’MALLEY Josephine O’Malley, a senior at St. Agnes High School, is a longtime volunteer at the Greater Ridgewood Youth Council. For the past fi ve years, O’Malley has volunteered her time during the summer and school year to be with the youth council. She has been active in the Girl Scouts as well as many other service projects. At school, she is a member of the National Honor Society, is a Student Ambassador, as well as president of the Math Club. She has also participated in Relay for Life for many years, and is an active volunteer in her parish, tutoring children and serving as a Eucharistic Minister. O’Malley hopes to attend either Emersen College, Notre Dame, Yale, St. John’s University or St. Joseph’s College.
