Member FDIC Equal Housing Lender This Diamond is well rounded BY MAGGIE HAYES [email protected] She may appear quiet and reserved, but this diamond shines through in everything that she does. Diamond Moody, 15, is a stellar honor student, having received numerous academic awards. She is also an athlete, teacher, musician and active church member. “Doing all of that stuff balances me out,” said the teen, who also said that her strict schedule has given her discipline in all aspects of her life. Moody, who lives in St. Albans with her parents and older brother, is a black belt in karate, and also teaches it to children. She dabbles in flag football, and is on the junior varsity basketball team at Townsend Harris High School, where she is a sophomore. “All of the activities test me, I like to see what I can do better,” said Moody. She admitted that she’d like to perform better in basketball, and hopes to make the varsity team next season. Outside of sports, Moody is involved in Girl Scouts, dance classes, her church choir, Sunday school, various forms of volunteer work, and also interns at Senator Malcolm Smith’s office. Starting with Smith at age 13, Moody became the youngest intern in the State Senate. In the future, she sees herself as a teacher, preferably in high school. “I think high school is a difficult time, and I want to share my knowledge with other people,” she said. Each and every day, Moody is at one activity or another, and said that she likes it that way, and that’s its “better than being at home, doing nothing.” “Plus, any time I do have time alone, somebody asks me to do something else, so I do it,” she laughed.
