Now in its sixth year, the event has raised tens of thousands of dollars for QSAC, Quality Services for the Autism Community. What makes it so close to Halvatzis’s heart is that his son, diagnosed with autism at age two, receives services at QSAC. And since he is the “face” of the event, Halvatzis is touched, he said, that there are people who participate every year – and those who just started. “For those people who haven’t shaved in years, to shave means a lot,” he said. “It means they care about the cause.” Among those who went hairless this year – including attorneys Jerry Chrisafis and Larry Littwack; Bill Balash, who runs the Bohemian Beer Hall; and Mike Christoforou – were first-timers Kenneth Marzocco and Paul’s other son Nicholas, 23, both of whom shaved for Paul’s son. “They helped do something nice, something good,” said Halvatzis. This year’s “Shave the ‘Stache for Autism Cash” raised $15,000 – all of which will go directly to QSAC.
