Health Matters
Back to school health and safety
Fall is a hectic time for parents and kids. We’ve got
some tips to help ease the transition from summer
fun to back to school activities while keeping safety
and wellness top of mind.
Long Island Jewish Forest Hills, a division of Northwell Health’s
Long Island Jewish Medical Center, provides inpatient medical
and surgical care, intensive care, emergency care, and obstetrics
and gynecology services, and is a New York State-designated
Stroke Center. Learn more at Northwell.edu/ForestHills.
Healthy tips.
– Schedule a well visit for your
child and get up to date on
recommended vaccines.
– Encourage kids to sign up for
after-school sports, clubs and
other physical activities.
– Make sure kids get enough
sleep - create a bedtime
routine and stick with it.
Safety tips.
– Form “walking groups”
so kids can walk to and
from school together. If
they are young, parents
can take turns walking
along with them.
– Make sure school
emergency contact forms
are up to date.
– Make sure kids walk ten
feet in front of the school
bus when crossing the
street around your home.
