“I’m so proud of our community.
We hit it out of the ballpark this
 year!”
 Thus, was the assessment of
 Committee Chairwoman Judy Lev
on the annual Babes & Guys charity
 tournament held on Thursday,
July 6. Lev, who chaired the event
in 2015 and helped in 2016, had
two years of experience to draw
on to ensure the 2017 annual
event, which raises money for the
 American Cancer Society’s fight
 against breast and prostate cancer,
was the most successful yet. Her
goal: to better last year’s totals at
 every level, from golf participation
to Tree of Life donations, and in so
 doing, raise at least $50,000.
More than $38,000 was raised in
2016, a total which put North Shore
Towers in the Top Ten among area
 country clubs who participate with
their own Babes & Guys events. The
top 2–3 raise more than $200,000
apiece. “Clubs which make at least
$50,000 get recognized each year at
 a kick-off breakfast, sponsored by
Babes & Guys Chairwoman Judy Lev between her sons, Corey Lev and
 Russell Green
 the American Cancer Society,” Lev
 explained. “The resulting publicity
is great advertising for North Shore
Towers. It shows we’re an active
 community, which in turn
 will raise awareness, cachet
 and value to lure younger
 buyers.”
 The day itself remained
 gray day with overcast
 skies, occasional spot
 drizzling and the threat
 of rain. But the inclement
 weather did not wash
 away the enthusiasm
of participants. In fact, the conditions
 could’ve been considered
 ideal for playing and sharing
 camaraderie: cool climes and soft
 greens. Fortunately, Mother
 Nature remained relatively
 kind throughout the day,
 perhaps understanding
 the import of the festivities,
   as participants
 enjoyed men’s, women’s
 and mixed rounds of play,
 and such specialty contests
 as “Closest to the Pin”
 and “Longest Drive.”
Nearly 100 non-fans of golf, but
 no less concerned about contributing
to the cause, filled the large
downstairs card room by the Towers
Theater entrance to enjoy a few
 friendly “rounds” tableside. Bridge,
 Mah-Jongg, Canasta, whatever the
 game happened to be, accompanied
by a table full of refreshments, such
as cookies, coffee and tea, made for
 an ebullient atmosphere, filled with
 laughter and competitive banter.
“Card” players were also each automatically
 entered in a raffle separate
from the one at the later luncheon.
 “Overall, the card players earned
more than other group this year,”
 Lev noted.
 More than 240 golfers, card
 players and supporters, packed
Towers on the Green for the 12:30
 p.m. luncheon. Country Club
 Manager, Mary Anne Langone
and her stalwart band of helpers
 transformed the renovated catering
hall into a magical palace of pink,
 which took one’s breath away.
 Balloons covered the ceiling above
the dance floor, the glow from the
 encircling lights bathing them in
fuschia, and girded on each side
