ARE BDS AND ANTI-ZIONISM
ANTI-SEMITIC BIRD WHISTLES?
Unfortunately, yes. We used to think that people who hated Israeli policy
didn’t hate Jews. Now we are seeing people waving Palestinian flags and
yelling “Death to Jews.” As someone who has been the victim of hate crimes
because of my religion, I know hate speech when I hear it. So when DSA
demands City Council candidates support BDS, I hear echoes of ancient blood
libels. For too long so-called Progressives who claim opposition to prejudice
have allowed an anti-Israel movement to become anti-Jew. Those who align
themselves with DSA and the Working Family Party must strongly condemn
the anti-Semitism bubbling up from their political rhetoric.
