The Super Six Complete info on this year’s Board of Director’s elections A field of six candidates is vying this year for five open seats on the NST Board of Directors in annual elections set for Thursday, June 15. Four seats will be for full, twoyear terms. The fifth spot will be for a one-year term to fill out the unexpired term of late Board President Mort Gitter, who passed away last year. As the 2016 candidate with the next highest vote tally, Stanley Goldsmith, stepped in to complete Gitter’s first year after his re-election. He will be running again, along with incumbents Phyllis Goldstein, Steve Redlich and Bob Ricken. Incumbent Felice Hannah has decided not to run for re-election, leaving a vacancy for at least one of the candidates, who is running for the first time: Mel Fox or Warren Glenn. The Board functions as the governing body of the corporation that owns and operates North Shore Towers. All legal shareholders— residents who own their own apartments—have a right to vote. The elections are administered by the American Arbitration Association, the non-for-profit organization that specializes in elections for unions, corporate stockholders and other commercial groups. Ballots are to be mailed to shareholder early in June. They may be returned by mail to the AAA or dropped in secure ballot boxes located in the lobbies of each building. Votes are tallied and announced Thursday, June 15, the night of the annual shareholders meeting. Candidates are listed here in the order they will appear on the ballot. CANDIDATE STATEMENTS Order of Candidates Drawn by Lots Tuesday, May 16, 2017 My name is Warren Glenn and I am seeking the position as a member of the Board of Directors to North Shore Towers. I am a sixty-eight year old retired elementary school assistant principal in the New York City Public School System. I had the opportunity to work with many people, listen to many people and help guide my staff and students to reach their potential. My duties included being a stall developer for the entire school district where my team and I implemented new programs that we created and developed in our school. These ideas were then shared with all of the schools in my district. I have had a dual career. Besides being an educator I am also an interior designer who has been working in the art and design field for the past forty years. I am a new resident to the North Shore Towers complex. I moved in last June and I am looking forward to joining and becoming part of the workings of this community. Colleagues and supervisors have told me I am very organized, detailed and conscientious worker and I would consider it an honor to represent the Board of Directors. In five years as Board President there was no raise in maintenance or country club dues while our reserve funds grew from $6,000,000 to $20,000,000. Apartment prices that had lost 15% when I took office rose dramatically in each of the following years. As founding member of the Presidents Council of Coops and Condos, we met with City and State officials to save the rebate out residents receive in June. Long-term Superintendent of Mineola Schools and later hired as Interim Superintendent of 6 Long Island school districts having a financial or leadership crisis. Received three Lifetime Achievement Awards from Long Island University, Brooklyn College and Phi Delta Kappa. This year my Special Projects Committee hosted the 9/11 Memorial Program, the Community Art Show, assisted with the smoke-free initiative, and partnered with Hadassah to present the Holocaust Remembrance Program. I was Past President of the Nassau Citizens Budget Committee and author of 14 books and over 300 articles. My last book, “How to be a Compassionate and Decisive Leader,” has recently been translated into Chinese. In 9 years on the Board, I HAVE ATTENDED EVERY MEETING and made sure all concerns of residents were considered. Warren Glenn Bob Ricken 12  NORTH SHORE TOWERS COURIER  ¢  June 2017
