Did you know that there are
different types of knitters?
Some only care about compliments
when they give impressive,
hand-made gifts. Others get so
frustrated they want to give up the
hobby entirely.
The NST Knit & Crochet Club
is interested in a different type
altogether. Its members enjoy
the process of knitting, the yarn’s
interesting texture and beautiful
color. Most of all, they get the
greatest pleasure from acts of
charity and by helping others.
Women on the home front have
always provided knitted blankets
and clothing. Prayer shawls
have been made worldwide
for observant people in need.
Sadly, a much needed knitted
NST Knit & Crochet Club
object currently is “chemo caps”
for chemotherapy patients.
The Club’s work follows in the
tradition of centuries of charity
knitters. For over a decade, our
Knit & Crochet Club has had a
close relationship with the Office
of Veterans Affairs of New York.
They have received numerous
citations for the beautiful knitted
blankets and clothing items they
generously make for our veterans.
Earlier this year, the Knit &
Crochet Club joined forces with
the Women’s Club to produce and
donate over 100 knitted blankets
to the staff at Northwell Health.
We are all aware that the pandemic
has shuttered many of our
favorite activities. The Knit &
Crochet Club has been limited
as well. However, it has never
stopped supplying yarn to individual
members. They have kept busy
and satisfied knitting at home.
Club leaders have been occupied
collecting the finished items. As
always, the greatest satisfaction
has come by distributing them to
the club’s roster of charities.
The group has not been together
in over a year, but like all of
the clubs at NST, they want to
hold a reunion very soon. They
look forward to putting a meeting
notice in this newspaper.
When things open up, the club
will welcome new members and
existing members alike. Instead
of working in isolation, they will
once again enjoy their inspiring
weekly meetings.
