Essman’s performance anchors an extravagant three days, which will include the premiere of a commissioned North Shore documentary, produced by resident Morty Schwartz, and a fun-filled Street Fair throughout the Arcade. “We tried to capture something that would be unforgettable,” says 40th Anniversary Committee Member Dennis Rappaport when describing the tremendous effort put into the celebration by the committee. Dennis, whose career spans more than three decades in the worlds of sports and entertainment, chaired the 25th Anniversary Committee fifteen years ago, which he admits “was quite a celebration, but can’t hold a candle to this!” He was instrumental in securing Susie Essman. “Signing Essman could not have 40th Anniversary SATURDAY DINNERSHOW been done without Dennis’s hard work and negotiating skills,” explains Committee Chairperson Phyllis Goldstein. Goldstein has worked tirelessly with fellow members, Fred Chernow, Susan Fladell, Dennis and Linda Rappaport, Morty Schwartz and NST General Manager Glen Kotowski to create a weekend event that North Shore Towers residents will not soon forget. The weekend kicks off with the world premiere of Producer Morty Schwartz’s North Shore Towers documentary on Friday, June 12 at 6:00pm, with encore presentations on Friday night at 8:00pm and Sunday, June 14 at 6:00pm and 8:00pm. Months in the making, Schwartz and the NST Video Services team—John Virga and Marty Ragusa—spent hundreds of hours collecting vintage material and interviewing residents to create the story of North Shore Towers from its inception to the present. HEADLINER SUSIE ESSMAN The Susie Essman dinner-show highlights Saturday, June 13. The evening begins with top-shelf cocktails at 6:30pm, followed by a gourmet dinner prepared by world renowned chef Gregory Zapantis of The Towers Restaurant, who’s cooked for both Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama, and whose work has been featured in magazines and on television. Towers Restaurant operators Spiros and Buffy Dimas, and Angelo Pantazis designed the top-flight menu with Zapantis. Magician/comedian/ entertainer Harrison Greenbaum opens for Essman. Greenbaum was voted Best Comedian Prospect by Comedy Central in 2012 and has won the Andy Kaufman and Shorty Awards. And there will be a Viennese table set up following Susie Essman’s performance as well. Committee Member Susan Fladell oversaw the catering of the evening’s gala. Fladell, and her late husband Marty, owned and operated Jem Caterers, which was one of the most elite and best caterers in New York, so expect to be dazzled. Tickets are $80.00 per person and will go on sale at 10:00 AM on Sunday, May 17th, at the Towers Country Club front desk. Tickets will be available on a first-come basis. THE PERFORMANCE MAY CONTAIN ADULT LANGUAGE. “This is the best bargain since we bought Manhattan from the Indians,” says Dennis. “I think within 24 hours there won’t be any tickets left!” On Sunday, June 14, from 2:00 to 5:30 pm, the Arcade undergoes a Street- Fair transformation and the Coleridge Lounge will become the Coleridge Casino, with blackjack table, roulette and money wheel. “Every attendee will receive exclusive custom-designed ‘fun money’ when they come to the fair,” explains Committee Member Linda Rappaport. “The fun money can be used to play any of the casino games and at the end of the day, those who’ve collected the most fun money will win prizes.” Linda promises a day of festivities, yummy eats and surprises, followed by dancing under the stars. Throughout the Arcade, Tower vendors will offer specials and giveaways; there will be carnival games, performers, Tarot card readings, temporary tattoo artists and handwriting analyst extraordinaire, Irwin Pfeffer. Cotton candy and popcorn will be available and the Towers Restaurant will offer hot dogs and lemonade. At 5:30pm, as the fair winds down a six-piece band will perform in the outdoor courtyard and residents will be able to dance under the stars. Despite the months of hard work, the Committee agrees that it’s been a labor of love to represent their fellow residents and be a part of the 40th Anniversary.
