UPDATE ON UPGRADES The North Shore Towers Board of Directors met on the evening of Thursday, April 18. Several very important items were discussed. The board has agreed upon a company to construct and install our new generators. The price for the three generators will be $13,304,939. A consultant will be hired to review every aspect of the extremely complicated contract. Although we have more than enough funds to pay for the generators, the board will review the possibility of taking out a low interest loan to pay the cost over a longer period of time. We will keep everyone informed as to the final contract and the manner in which we will fund the project. There will be an open board meeting on Thursday, May 16. At that time, every board member will update the residents on the progress of their committees, give an update on the restaurant’s arbitration, discuss the upcoming board election and discuss the parking space litigation with the sponsor. The board is going forward with the complete renovation of the movie theater. This will include a new from the towers A Message from the President: screen, improvements to the entire area and new seating. Management is presently interviewing vendors and getting bids for the seating and digital projector. The playground will be reconstructed, new safety floors will be purchased and part of the area will be used for additional seating in the garden area. We must await the reconstruction of overhead netting to protect everyone from errant golf balls. The board has already purchased a new barbeque for those who enjoy eating outdoors in the area around the gardens and basketball courts. This is an additional activity for those of us who miss barbequing in our own homes. To utilize the barbeque, residents must call Security the day before and they will turn on the gas for the barbeque. Since the contract with our security firm will come to an end in a few months, a negotiating committee composed of Mort Gitter, Fred Chernow, Glen Kotowski and I was formed. We will soon be going out to bid for a new security contract. Bob Ricken We spent a long time on several letters from residents and the board will take action on all those that require a response. This has been a procedure to ensure that residents will be heard, and thus far we have received very positive feedback on the practice. The Board also voted to replace all of the lights on the tennis court that were destroyed in the Sandy storm. Fortunately, we have been receiving additional insurance money for many of our claims. By the time you read this article, the board will have met with the Towers Restaurant owners and their attorney. They asked to meet with the board prior to the arbitration to present a new proposal to us. The Board voted unanimously to meet with them on the evening of Thursday April 25.
