Women’s Club Happenings Fasten your seat belts! 34 North Shore Towers Courier n February 2016 It’s going to be a great year for The Women’s Club in 2016 BY VICKI MAZEL • PHOTOS BY JULIE WEISSMAN NST Women’s Club members will have an opportunity to hear a variety of speakers spotlighting everything from “Downton Abbey” to the Triangle Shirt Factory Fire. Brunch lunches, a special spring trip, comedy and more are also being planned to fulfill our mission statement: “to promote friendship and learning through common interests, by sponsoring social, educational, and volunteer activities for our members.” 2016 started off with a bang, as the program held on Wednesday, January 13th, was a great success. Speaker psychotherapist Terrie Rabinowitz tackled the topic, “The Confident Woman.” In addressing this issue, her professionalism provided great insight, and suggestions to improve self- image and live a more productive life were highlighted with humor and plain common sense. FEBRUARY 10TH Hold your heads up high… “IT’S NEVER TOO LATE!” So says our February speaker Physical Therapist Yuliya Davydova, the go-to person to counteract the effects of aging. How can we curtail loss of muscle mass and strength, increase cardio vascular endurance and achieve greater flexibility and balance? Yuliya will give a demonstration on self-help by using ordinary household items. Don’t miss this special evening and an opportunity to learn how to feel better and do more. Tennis, anyone? MARCH 16th Educator and motivational speaker, Liz Ropers, will conduct a special program on “The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire.” The tragedy, occurring more than 100 years ago, became a major turning point in history that still impacts the way industry is run today. After 146 young women died, many of them recent immigrants, the need for unions and better working conditions became a rallying How can YOU get involved? She brings her rich experience to NST Women’s Club and will be discussing “Beyond Downton Abbey,” taking us through the richness of England’s gilded age. Don’t miss this one! And the list goes on...
