DANCE DANCE DANCE! NST Country Club offers classes to satisfy every taste 28 North Shore Towers Courier n February 2016 Ballroom Photos by Julie Weissman Don’t worry if you don’t have a partner. Ballroom/Tango Instructor Mary Grace will work with individuals one at a time during class, so no one is left out of the instruction. Her North Shore Towers class covers Fox Trot, Waltz, Tango, Swing, Cha-cha, Rumba, Salsa, Merengue, free style and Hustle, upon request, with appropriate music for each. Mary Grace began her career as a jazz student in Long Island and Queens. Her Ballroom and Latin training came from attending classes at one of the Arthur Murray studios. Her facility with the dances was such that management took notice, offering Mary Grace a position as student/teacher after her course was complete, training her free of charge. She’s taught at Arthur Murray and Fred Astaire dance studios, as well as some independent ones. During the height of her career, she entered many Pro/Am competitions and was part of professional exhibitions in various showcases. Today, she teaches at The Towers, as well as offering private lessons, preparing individuals for special events, such as weddings or Bar Mitzvahs, including designing specific dances for every occasion. “There are so many benefits, from Ballroom dancing,” she said. “Self-confidence, good posture, balance, fitness, making new friends, a sense of accomplishment or sharing a hobby with a friend or spouse. Plus, unlike other fitness classes, dancing can be done at parties, weddings, etc.” By Stephen Vratos Aerobics not your thing? Petrified of Pilates? Does the Reformer have you running? Perhaps a dance class is more your style. Whether the smooth rhythmic moves of ballroom; the fun team-play of In-Line or the exotic high-energy of Zumba, the Country Club offers something for everyone. Dancing is a wonderful way of staying in shape for those who aren’t into the usual fitness classes. You’ll enjoy all the fun and camaraderie, while also reaping the healthful benefits of staying fit. The important thing is to do something. The day you stop moving is the day you stop moving! Watch out, Rockettes! Let’s Tango One, two... Cha-cha-cha...
