Continuing Praise
for North Shore Towers Charity

The dictionary definition of
“charity” is “kindness or help
to the needy or suffering.” It
can certainly be said the members
of North Shore Towers Knitting and
Crocheting Club are continually
performing acts of charity. They
supply warm, colorful handmade
blankets to charitable organizations
throughout the greater New York
area. Club members give their time
and efforts without expectation
of praise. However, when they do
receive letters of praise, they like to
share them with their friends and
neighbors.
Jacobi Medical Center in the
Bronx is one of the main recipients
of the Club’s blankets. This
relationship spans more than a
decade. Specifically, pregnant
patients in the facility’s Women’s
Health Center are given prenatal
courses. Recipients include teens
in their Link2Care Teen Pregnancy
Program, who additionally are guided
through a G.E.D course.
Patients are always thrilled to
receive a blanket from the club.
Ninety-year-old Maria Kyriazis, a
volunteer at Jacobi for 34 years,
takes pride in folding and tying
ribbons to the blankets to make
them look like gifts. The Health
Education Coordinator of Jacobi’s
Women’s Health Center states, “It
means so much to our patients that
someone who does not even know
them would take the time to make
something so special and meaningful
for them.” One teen patient
wrote, “Thank you so much for the
wonderful blanket. It is better than
a factory made one, because it is
handmade with 100% love.”
Such praise serves to inspire
club members to redouble their
charitable acts. They invite you to
join them in in this heartwarming
work. Your labor, monetary donations
or the provision of yarn or
knitting needles is greatly appreciated.
