Men’s club presented comedian
Mark Brier for an evening
of comedy. Prior to Mark’s performance,
President Arnie Rabinowitz
informed the membership it had
$12,000 in the Treasury, which
means our club will have many
good events in the future for the
membership and their guest to enjoy.
Also, the Board will be accepting
applications for membership for
the coming year, 2019.
Mark Brier’s routine had some
interesting and humorous twists
to it. He asked the audience to
name some past comedians and
did imitations of them performing
their well-known lines. For example,
Henny Youngman’s “Take my
wife…please!” The names which
the audience came up with brought
back many happy memories. Some
went so far back I thought a few
16th-century court jesters would
Dinner Dance at the Swan Club (seated, l. to r.) Bill Quinn, Marilyn Saltzman, Artie and Shirley Rose, Arnie
and Terrie Rabinowitz; (standing, l. to r.) Mona and Steve Rosenberg, Rita and Joe DiGiovanni
be mentioned.
Brier is from Long Beach and he
asked if anyone was from that area.
A few were and they proceeded to
go over old times. If he was from
the Bronx or Brooklyn, there would
have been enough stories to have
kept us there all night.
In the past, Brier, who is now
retired, played the Borsht Belt
circuit, cruise lines, bungalow
colonies remember them?, and
libraries. Speaking to Mark before
the show, he seemed quite at ease.
After all, it’s not every day one gets
to perform at the “Card Room” in
North Shore Towers.
I thought the audience was quit
appreciative, and who knows, we
might just see Brier again.
Next month’s featured Speaker
will be Keith Crocker talking about
“The life and times of Ed Sullivan.”
I’m sure some of us remember Ed.
The next Men’s Club luncheon
will be held at Moonstone Asian
Cuisine in Great Neck on January
23, at 12:15 p.m. Moonstone is one
of the best north shore Asian restaurants.
