30 North Shore Towers Courier n January 2015 Men’s Club By Paul Nettler Our meeting on December 10th was filled with gales of laughter. What else would one expect when the movie being shown was about the life and times of Mel Brooks. He is a most unique character. It’s amazing the things which with he got away. Think punching out a horse in “Blazing Saddles” and “Spring Time For Hitler.” To use a corny old phrase, they just don’t make movies like that anymore. Thanks to Harold Katz for arranging the program. The Events Committee chaired by Arnie Rabinowitz is moving ahead full throttle. At next month’s meeting we will have a movie about Simon Wiesenthal entitled “I Will Never Forget You.” Jack Sevita, who worked for Wiesenthal, will discuss the movie. The committee is also planning to have movie nights separate and apart from any movie that we might show at our meetings. The plan is that after the movie we would discuss and critique it. It could make for some very interesting conversation. Starting on Thursday January 22nd at 7:00 there will be a Poker Tourney, and one every month thereafter. Also, Bingo Nights are planned for February and March. Spring and summer events are being planned now as well. They include a concert featuring our own Gary Zemser and The North Shore Tower’s Orchestra. Yes, NST has an orchestra! Also, being planned are an event to welcome back our snow birds, a dinner cruise, a fishing trip, a boat ride up the Hudson and another Atlantic City adventure. All this information and more will be available soon on our North Shore Towers Men’s Club web site which Toby Horowitz is diligently developing. Our Tuesday morning informal breakfasts attract new faces every week. It’s in the VIP room and starts around 9:15, but do come earlier if you’re hungry. Sometimes the things we discuss are serious, but mostly just friendly banter. One might think that we’re back in the old fraternity house. Just be aware that in January we will meet on Wednesdays instead of Tuesdays. North Shore Towers Political Action Committee Felice Hanah, NST Board Member Political Action Chairperson NST PAC January 2015 Calendar of Events A workshop for North Shore Towers residents who are retired members of the United Federation of Teachers (UFT) or Council of Supervisors and Administrators (CSA) will be held on January 22, 2015 @ 7:30PM in the Coleridge Lounge. Seating will be limited so come early. Felice Hannah will conduct the workshop. She is a retired CSA Member, State Certified Medicare Volunteer Consultant, Member Medicare Fraud Prevention Task Force, former CSA Retiree Chapter Outreach Coordinator and United Nations NGO Member.
