Founder and President Shirley Wershba: “The McCarthy Years refers to a group of broadcasts done by Edward R. Murrow in the early 1950's on a program titled SEE IT NOW. Murrow was previously famous for his wartime broadcasts from London during World War Two. McCarthy was a U.S. Senator from Wisconsin during the 1950's who was catapulted to prominence by his redbaiting of anyone or anything that didn't agree with him. His stock in trade was a campaign against communism and communists, which came to be known as “McCarthyism.” He never actually found a communist in government or elsewhere despite claims of "Holding in my hand" a list of 20... or 47... or a hundred names of communists in government. The documentary covers several of Murrow’s broadcasts.
