ASK A PSYCHIC:
WHEN DOES GRIEF END?
By MARY DREW
North Shore Psychic Medium
Grief is a human response that we
all share after the loss of someone
we hold near and dear to our hearts.
Like love and anger, we all share the
capacity for this emotion.
As a psychic medium, I speak to
many people who are trying desperately
to cope with the loss of a
loved one. The question is always
the same: “When will my grief
end?” I listen not to the question but
to the emotion that surrounds those
words.
What can we do? What should we
do? First, we need to just breathe.
Grieving is a natural process of life
and death. We all grieve at different
speeds and with varying levels of
intensity.
"Grief is our friend and teacher."
There is no one way to grieve or
a handbook to follow. Grief can be
dark, scary, and hard at times. It can
consume us for weeks, days, years
or a lifetime.
I understand how hard this is to
accept, and it seems like a heavy
burden to carry. However, grief is
our friend and teacher. It gives us
a place to feel our sorrow. It brings
us so deep within ourselves that the
pain feels overwhelming, but that
is where we all need to go. Healing
begins in hard times.
Many people cannot see the good
that grief can bring. It is an automatic
time-out in life to slow down and
think about the impacts that people
have made on our lives. We learn to
appreciate the relationships we have
and the time we are given to create
lasting memories.
Grief shows us all that we have
been blessed with someone special
in our lives, that we need to reflect
upon those moments with gratitude.
That we are blessed to have loved
and been loved. We are humbled
by the beautiful moments that life
grants us.
One thing I do know is, life is for
the living. Live it well, both for your

own soul’s growth and to honor the
memory of those no longer with us.
Grief will not leave you, but it will
help define your character. Grief
will show you that when life is difficult,
you are capable of survival.
So, when will your grief end? Never.
And that is a blessing. Every day you
have a chance to feel, and through
those feelings you will grow your
soul. The soul is always developing
within the restraints of the human
form. The soul needs all the human
emotions in order to fully grow.
If you are struggling with your
grief, seek out professional help
or the arms of a friend. You are not
alone. You are going to find your way
through this time. Have faith and
just breathe.
