FROM THE PUBLISHER
The holiday season is upon us and it brings a smile to my face and great joy to drive
through Long Island neighborhoods and see the sparkling lights on houses. For me it’s
also a time of giving back to our favorite causes.
One decorated house in Manhasset near St. Francis Hospital creates a traffic jam
because not only is it a spectacular site to look at its displays but it's also a “giving back”
house. Several people around the Island have set up donation boxes to collect money for
worthwhile causes. They are a prime example.
Enjoy the fabulous men we made Kings of Long Island. Each one a person who has
achieved great success in their careers but also gives back. Making the case for why more
people should pursue giving efforts is this month's cover feature on James Metzger, of the
Whitmore Group, who has made an enormous impact with his generosity. Looking to donate?
Check out The A List for a few suggestions.
In our ongoing series on the Hempstead school crisis, we explore the latest explosive litigation filed by personnel
claiming they've uncovered corruption in the district.
In the business section, we take a look at The Nest on Main, a Chelsea Market-inspired retail hub in Northport. And in
the health section, we get readers ready to make their resolutions by reflecting on last year's health goals.
As a "Destination" feature, our reporters also fanned out across Stony Brook and the Three Village area, to bring
readers some fresh ideas for where to go and what to do in these charming
neighborhoods. Don’t miss our Main Dish food and cocktail selections. Just in
time for the holidays, we bring you our annual gift guide of items made by Long
Islanders, for Long Islanders.
And as always, be sure to like Long Island Press on Facebook, follow us on
Twitter and Instagram, and sign up for our weekly Friday Refresher email

Happy New Year!
