RXR REALTY INVES RXR
CLOSES ON ENGINEER’S
COUNTRY CLUB
RXR Realty Investments Inc. bought
Engineers Country Club in Roslyn
Harbor, the latest step in a plan for
the largest commercial property
owner on Long Island to partially
develop the 210-acre property.
An RXR spokesman confirmed the
developer closed on the property
for an undisclosed sum. The board
of directors voted to sell the century
old club’s assets — including its
18-hole golf course, tennis courts,
pool and clubhouse — in September,
the Press has reported. RXR
has also signaled its intent to build
residences on part of the property,
although the Village
of Roslyn Harbor
instituted a moratorium
on subdivisions.
“It is RXR’s intention
to operate ECC
as a full-service
county club, including
golf, tennis,
pool and food and
beverage services,”
the club said in a
letter to its members
obtained by the Press.
The sale makes Engineers the latest
in a string of LI country clubs to be
put on the market, including the
109-year-old Woodmere Club in
Woodmere, the 125-acre Cedarbrook
Club in Old Brookville, the
107-acre Woodcrest Country Club
in Muttontown, the North Shore
Country Club in Glen Head and
the 168-acre Cold Spring Country
Club that adjoins Oheka Castle.
The Engineers Country Club
initially told members of their
financial troubles in July. The club
then hired country club sales consultant
Dennis Hiller, who put it on
the market. After 31 expressions of
interest, 18 signed non-disclosure
agreements, nine tours of property
and three letters of intent, an undisclosed
offer was made by RXR,
according to club correspondence.

NORTHWELL, CIGNA
RENEW DEAL AFTER
WARNING OTHERWISE
Northwell Health and Cigna Health
Life and Life Insurance Co. have
called off a previously announced
plan to part ways after they reached
agreement to continue their more
than 20-year relationship.
The deal keeps all Northwell
hospitals, physicians, laboratories,
home health and other providers
in the Cigna network. When the
two companies were at an impasse
in contract renewal negotiations,
Cigna had sent members a legally
mandated notice Nov. 30 informing
them that Northwell could be
removed from their network in the
New Year. But now Cigna coverage
of Northwell patients will continue
uninterrupted through 2018.
“Northwell puts its patients first to
ensure that all patients receive the
medical care they need,” said Howard
Gold, executive vice president,
and chief managed care officer at
Northwell. “We regret any confusion
or inconvenience caused by
Cigna’s letter.”
New Hyde Park-based Northwell
Health, which changed its name
in 2015 from North Shore-Long
Island Jewish Health Care System,
is the largest private employer in
New York State and the 14th largest
health system nationwide.
The health care system said patients
insured through Connecticut-based
Cigna can disregard the letter from
the insurer “or any others stating
that Northwell providers will not
participate with Cigna Health
Plans.” The letter had warned that
Northwell patients insured through
Cigna would have to pay out of
pocket.
