Dr. Christi Kim of New York Cancer & Blood Specialists
Appointed as Member of SGO Clinical Practice Committee
Port Jefferson, N.Y. – New York Cancer & Blood Specialists is pleased to announce the appointment
of Dr. Christi Kim to the Clinical Practice Committee of the Society of Gynecological Oncology
(SGO). The SGo is a premier non-profit organization advancing the research and education of
gynecologic cancers. Moreover, the Committee addresses multidisciplinary management issues
impacting the care of women with these pressing issues.
Dr. Kim has been practicing gynecologic oncology for the past nine years, caring for hundreds
of patients amidst great advances: “It is a rapidly evolving and challenging field” says Dr. Kim. “In
recent years, there were many exciting clinical trials, some changing the paradigm of daily practice.
We take care of many patients with advanced gynecologic cancers who were deemed “terminal”
in the not so distant past. However, with recent advances in our field, many women today are
living their lives with much improved quality and a greater life expectancy, much akin to those with
other chronic illnesses that are well maintained. This improvement makes it extremely gratifying
to work as an oncologist, taking care of patients and guiding them and their family through the
difficulty journey of fighting cancer.”
Dr. Kim is passionate about her field and encourages patients to stay motivated: “I tell my patients
not to give up hope” said Dr. Kim. “I try to set realistic goals and stay positive and optimistic. For
those who are giving up hope prematurely where there is still a viable option, I share my personal
experiences that prove to be uplifting. There are many people out there (some we already know,
including our loved ones such as my own sister) still going strong and living their lives with advanced
cancer. They are truly the driving force for me to strive for excellence.”
Dr. Kim earned her Medical Degree from St. George’s University. She completed both her Chief
Residency and Fellowship at the State University of New York at Stony Brook University Hospital.
Dr. Kim continued, “I am very proud to be appointed as a member of the SGO Clinical Practice
Committee. I strongly believe we can succeed in improving patient outcomes and ultimately fulfill
much of unmet need in gynecologic cancer.”
Dr. Kim currently treats patients at NYCBS’ Babylon, Bay Shore, and Patchogue locations.
