6 LONGISLANDPRESS.COM • APRIL 2018
pring has been for me the most powerful season
of the year.
Not only is it a glorious sight to see the flowers
burst from the earth and the buds on the trees
turn to leaves, it’s also when my daughter,
Elizabeth, was born, on April 16.
Elizabeth was my life beginning anew. She was born just two
years after my first child, Lara, was born. Lara sadly turned
blue in the nursery and was permanently brain damaged,
remaining a 3-year-old developmentally her whole life.
When I went into the hospital for Elizabeth’s delivery, there
were no leaves on the trees, but eight days after my Caesarean
delivery, as we drove home with my perfect, healthy Elizabeth
Joy safely in my arms, every tree had its first gorgeous, gentle,
soft green-colored leaves, and our world was glowing too.
Life had begun again for me with a new life and boundless
opportunities, and nature gave us a gift too. Spring is the time
of rebirth, celebrate it!
Similarly celebrating new beginnings in this month’s issue is
Today show chef and food blogger Siri Daly, a Midwest native
who now calls LI home. We talked to her about life and her
love of food (which resulted in a her recently released her new
cookbook, Siriously Delicious).
The fight for survival from drug addiction is dramatically
told in our powerful interview with Lindsay Lohan’s father,
Michael, who’s also turned over a new leaf. It’s a timely,
fascinating tale of pain and recovery, all the more important
