INSIDE JOB
The homeowner
wanted the custom unit
for their outdoor kitchen
made from veneer stone and
granite. It features a grill, a sink, a
refrigerator and double doors for
storage. Iron barstools are added,
offering ample seating and a
perfect eating area.

Harborwood Construction
transformed the yard of this split-level
Massapequa home into a spacious
outdoor living area that gives it that
resort feel complete with all the
amenities that the homeowners wanted.
“What made this property different
was that it was narrow, and we were
still able to accomplish what the
homeowners wanted, which was
different areas for entertaining and also
privacy,” says Charles Gamarekian,
who collaborated on the project with
Haborwood Construction.
Harborwood worked closely
with the homeowners, creating
a three-dimensional design in
every inch of the space within the
client’s budget, using Cambridge
Pavingstones, wall stones and an
outdoor living kit.
“We can customize any kits,
depending on your budget, from
starter to sky’s the limit,” he says.
“We also do hardscaping and
projects in different phases, where
one year you may put in a fire
pit and the next year an indoor
kitchen. As the homeowner’s
budget grows, we grow with them.
For this project, the homeowners
hope to extend the patio and
add another seating area with a
fireplace or install a pizza oven for
their next addition.”

The fire pit gives off a lot of heat,
making it an ideal area for enjoying
cocktails and conversation when
the temperatures get cooler.
To create privacy,
the pergola was placed
strategically on the opposite
side of the yard, blending nicely
with the shrubbery and landscaping
and giving them the privacy they
wanted. This particular area underneath
the pergola was designed for dining
and having another seating area for
guests. Uplighting is also placed
along the pillars to add
ambiance.
Different types of outdoor
lighting lend themselves to this
outdoor design, called hardscape
lighting. We have lighting that fits into
the wall and lighting that will go right
into the pavers or uplighting that we used
for the pillars. You can’t see it, but we
installed lighting on the extended
granite top that faces down on the
outdoor kitchen.
Three different
types of stones
offering a variation of
color and texture are
used for this space.
