It all starts with “family,” for better or worse. For some of us the concept of family has evolved
and expanded beyond what was once considered “normal,” but no matter how you define
it, your family has varying degrees of influence on you, what you do, and where you go.
This month you’ll find stories throughout the paper on family-owned businesses, nursery
renovation ideas, and plenty of ideas for things to do with the kids, including child-friendly
ideas in our Summer Travel and Tourism planning guide.
On the cover, we are thrilled to have the inspiring Soledad O’Brien, host of Matter of Fact,
who grew up on Long Island. She spoke to us about raising four children while juggling the
high-pressure demands of journalism at a time when the industry is increasingly under
attack.
In the business section, we give you an analysis of the latest plans to redevelop the Nassau
Hub, a “new suburbia.” Plus, meet family-owned music giant Sam Ash and take a ride with
Big Cat Cycles Premium Electric Bikes, a local manufacturer.
In honor of National Caffeine Month, our health section offers advice on how to not overdo it with the coffee, plus a local
advocacy group fights for more resources to combat the opioid crisis.
In family and education, we have stories on the very funny mommies behind the What Fresh Hell podcast, early childhood
development tips, and a guide to kid-friendly restaurants. Speaking of family, we hope you’ll join us at our Family Expo at
the Mid-Island Y Jewish Community Center in Plainview on March 31.
This month’s Press Home section has a preview of the home sales market ahead of April moving season, and a look inside a
Versailles-inspired Brookville mansion that’s for sale.
In Press Buzz and Main Dish, our reporters hit the ground to bring you all the best things to see, do, eat, and drink in
Massapequa.
And as always, don’t forget to like Long Island Press on Facebook, follow us on Twitter and Instagram, and sign up for our
twice-weekly email newsletter rounding up the highlights from the updated daily longislandpress.com
Happy spring!
