PLAY BENEFITS SURVIVORS
It was an uphill battle for justice.
But now child sexual abuse survivors
can celebrate the recent passage of
the New York Child Victims Act
and seek prosecution against their
abusers. The bill also includes a oneyear
window during which victims of
any age or time limit can prosecute.
The issue of justice vs. mercy
is explored in Trial, a must-see,
riveting play by Ashley Griffin (Snow,
Twilight: The Unauthorized Musical
Parody), and directed by Lori Petty
(Orange is the New Black, A League of
Their Own) that asks, “What would a
victim decide if they could determine
their abuser’s eternal fate?”
Don’t miss an all-star cast of
Broadway performers during a
one-night benefit staged reading
of Trial at 7 p.m. March 28 at the
Krasnoff Theatre at Tilles Center at
LIU Post, 720 Northern Boulevard,
in Brookville. Proceeds will benefit
WellLife Network, one of the
region’s largest and most diversified
voluntary, nonprofit
health and human
services organizations,
helping individuals
and families lead
more independent and
productive lives.
It’s a dark reality:
one out of every six
American women has
been the victim of an
attempted or completed
rape. And while most
victims don’t talk about
their ordeal till later
in life, that experience will forever
haunt their daily existence.
Thanks to WellLife Network,
survivors of sexual trauma and their
families across New York City and
Long Island who are dealing with
developmental disabilities, mental
illness, and addiction have found
a safe space where they can receive
treatment while on their journey to
recovery and wellness.
“The issue of family violence affects
the entire family,” said Rebecca
Costa, vice president, Long Island
Operations. Inspired by a true
story, Trial brings the audience into
another realm – the bureaucratic
system of the afterlife – where a
young woman who becomes both
judge and jury awaits her own
judgment to determine the eternal
fate of her abusive father, who was
responsible for her death.
With a united voice and as
a community, the entire cast
has been raising awareness
about the importance
of ending child abuse.
Theatregoers can be part of
the solution as well.
Patrons who purchase
$175 tickets and corporate
sponsors are invited to
meet and greet the director,
author, and cast at an
exclusive cocktail party/
Talkback session. Tickets are
$75/$100/$175 per person. Please visit:
www.WellLifeNetwork.org/TRIAL.
Sponsorship opportunities are $250
to $25,000. For more information/
reservations, contact Cody Fisher,
