FROM THE PUBLISHER
Hello,
My name is Ali Jabbour and I am thrilled to be working with the Long Island Press team
as the new publisher of the region’s oldest publication.
As a Manhasset native who is also the publisher of Dan’s Papers, the Press’ sister paper in
the Schneps Media group, I look forward to growing this iconic brand that is the Island’s
premiere news and lifestyle magazine.
Kicking things off on the cover of this issue is a news analysis exploring where we have come
as the second anniversary of the Covid-19 pandemic nears, and where we’re going. In the
business section, beat reporter Claude Solnik explains the latest tax time changes readers
need to know ahead of the filing deadline. And in health, Bernadette Starzee details which
American Heart Month cardiac health tips the public needs to know.
In the Long Island Family section, Arlene Gross introduces us to Dr. Harold Fernandez,
who tells his story in his memoir/self-help book, A Boy and a Book: Overcoming Obstacles
Through the Magic of Reading. And in Press Home, real estate reporter Tammy Scileppi
has expert interior designer advice on how to get high-end decor for less.
Lastly, in Press Buzz, our reporters offer a roundup of Valentine’s Day events in addition
to the Do This! listings, Main Dish serves up the latest food and dining developments, and
Associate Editor Annie Wilkinson’s Rear View/Black History Month column looks at discriminatory
