Lobby Service Excellence at North
Shore Towers and Country Club

Yet another one of the many advantages that
North Shore Towers and Country Club offers its
residents and members is its large, first-rate lobby
services staff that includes a team of dedicated
doormen and concierges.
Supervising that huge lobby services staff is
Steve Cairo, who serves as North Shore Towers
and Country Club’s general superintendent and
has been working there for more than 17 years in
the same role.
“The prime responsibility of the lobby staff is
the protection of the building and its residents,
and privacy of the residents is always maintained,”
he said. “The lobby staff always maintains a pro-fessional
image and neat appearance. The doormen
wear gray suits and the concierges wear black suits.”
Each of the three buildings has a doorman,
concierge and lobby porter on duty for each shift,
from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and from 3:30 p.m. to
midnight; seven days a week. In addition, for en-hanced
resident safety, there is a security guard
stationed in each of the three lobbies from mid-night
until 7:30 a.m., when the regular lobby staff is off duty.
The concierge in each building manages the
lobby and supervises the doorman and lobby
porters, and has many additional responsibilities,
including handling all residents’ packages,
accepting deliveries and logging all packages into
the BuildingLink computer software system, he
ex-plained. The BuildingLink system sends a
notification to residents whenever they have a
package in the lobby, he noted.
The concierge also screens all visitors and guests
entering the lobby and announces them to the
residents before they go up to the apartment.
“The doormen assist all residents and guests,
visitors and anyone entering the lobby by opening
the revolving door or sliding door,” he said. “As
residents pull up with their vehicles, they assist
residents with unloading groceries or other items
from their vehicles.”
The lobby porter, meanwhile, “ensures the lobby
is maintained and kept in impeccable condition,
ensures the lobby marble floors are cleaned,
carpets are vacuumed, and mirrors and all glass
are cleaned,” he added.
“The lobby staff does an amazing job assisting
residents with any questions or concerns they
may have and are always helpful to our residents
in any way they can be,” he said. The lobby staff
is also “always communicating with the central
maintenance office to assist residents with any
maintenance issue they may need taken care of by
our professional and dedicated maintenance staff.”
Two of the standout members of the lobby
staff are Long Island residents Carlos Espino,
the night concierge in building three for more
than four years, and
Stephen Marshall, the
building two doorman
for the past six years.
Cairo had nothing but
praise for both of them,
noting he was “very
proud” of both of them
and the “outstanding”
jobs they’ve done over
the years at North Shore
Towers.
Espino, 59, has been
working at North Shore
Towers for a total of
about nine years and
currently works the 3:30
p.m. to midnight shift
Monday through Friday,
he said, noting he was
previously a chauffeur.
After finding out there
was a job opening at
North Shore Towers,
he decided to go for an
interview and was hired, initially as a porter in
building two, he said, calling that “an ex-cellent
choice” for his career “in every aspect,” adding it’s
“one of the best jobs that I’ve ever held.”
One thing he loves about working at North Shore
Towers is its residents, he said, noting: “I’m a people
person” who enjoys serving their needs.
Marshall, 44, has been working at North Shore
Towers for more than 15 years and currently works
the 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. shift Monday through
Friday, he said, noting he was previously a driver
for a rehabilitation center and found out about
the Towers through regularly driving one of its
residents. Like Espino, Marshall’s career there
started as a porter, a job he had for nine years
before being promoted to doorman.
Also like Espino, Marshall stressed that one thing
he loves about the job is “helping people,” not-ing
the residents are “very friendly and very nice.” For
Marshall, being a doorman is becoming a family
tradition because he’s following in the footsteps of
his father, who also loved the job, he pointed out.
North Shore Towers and Country Club also offers
an 18-hole golf course, five Har-Tru tennis courts,
indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, steam rooms,
a hot tub and a state-of-the-art gym of-fering
classes including Pilates. There are also basketball
courts, boxing and billiards rooms, ping-pong
and shuffleboard. There’s also shopping and even
a movie theater, so residents rarely ever have to – or
want to – leave.
