Editor’s note: Orestes Gonzalez is an architect, photographer, writer and resident of LIC since 1989. He has been taking photographs for over 25 years, traveling to over 40 countries and documenting what has become the overriding theme in his photography -- man’s intrinsic need for leaving a mark and the different paths to achieving it. His column, “Orestes’ LIC”, will concentrate on showing snippets of life around the areas we live in. A local record keeper, if you will. Take a look at Orestes’ Haunting video of Black & White photographs taken the night after hurricane Sandy ripped through Manhattan Vimeo.com/78436106 12 november 2014 i LIC COURIER i www.queenscourier.com “As I was scouting out locations for a fashion photo shoot, I noticed a mom and two daughters walking behind me. When they got closer, I saw that the older girl, 5-year-old Malia Smith, was dressed in a black cape and horns, and carrying a big staff. As Malia tried to catch up with her mom, I saw an opportunity to capture this little girl regally walking by herself in front of the LIC Courthouse, which could easily double as a castle. All the requirements for a great shot (subject, environment, light, and composition) came together for a fleeting moment. Just a stroke of luck of being in the right place, at the right time.” orestes' lic A Maleficent Walk Down Court Square 2014
