6letter from publisher The holidays are here The holiday season has finally arrived and along with giving thanks for all the great things we have accomplished this year, November brings many exciting things to Long Island City, Astoria and Sunnyside. To start off, we have announced the indoor LIC Flea & Food Holiday Market will open for three weekends before Christmas, as the LIC Flea & Food outdoor market has come to an end for the season. This unique market will kick off on December 7 and be held every weekend until December 22 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is free to the public and vendors with unique vintage and handcrafted artisan items and great food can apply to sell at the market through the LIC Flea website, www.licflea.com. Our front cover introduces one member of the LIC community that adds a new brightness to the art world. We got to sit down with Kenny Greenberg, a.k.a. “Mr. Neon,” and found out about what made him start creating neon signs as both a business and an art. We congratulate life-long Astoria resident Costa Constantinides, who took home the win to fill in departing Peter Vallone Jr.’s seat in the City Council and in January will represent Astoria, Long Island City and parts of Jackson Heights. We also celebrated the groundbreaking of the expansion of the beloved Mount Sinai Queens in Astoria. We also brought you front-row seats to the Battle of the Borough Bowl, where representatives from our borough took on the Bronx in a match of touch football. Even though Halloween was last month, we wanted to share photos of the lovely families that came out to the annual LIC Trick-Or-Treating March, decked out in their best costumes. We always welcome your feedback, ideas and want to hear from you. The holiday season is a great time to get together with family over a nice holiday meal and be grateful for all we have.
