The site was home to Paramount Pictures in the era of silent and early talking movies. In the 1930s the studio was a center for independent fi lmmaking, and from World War II into the Cold War was the U.S. Army Pictorial Center. The site is currently home to Kaufman Astoria Studios and the Museum of the Moving Image. Kelley’s work combs elements of American popular culture. He explores themes such as American class relations, sexuality, post-punk politics and systems of religion and transcendence through his sculpture, performances, video, photography and painting. SOCRATES SCULPTURE PARK 32-01 Vernon Boulevard Long Island City, NY 11106 718-956-1819 Toshihiro Oki architect’s “tree wood” Ongoing through March 31, 2014 Socrates Sculpture park and The Architectural League of New York selected “tree wood,” an airy geometrical wooden structure placed within a grove of trees, as the winner of the “Folly” competition. During the competition architects and designers built large-scale projects to be use in outdoor exhibitions. “tree wood” is a suspended ornate chandelier being held from the beams of the structure to intermingle with leaves and branches.Toshihiro Oki architect is made up of Toshihiro Oki, Jen Wood and Jared Diganci.
