MOMA PSI The Sculpture Center
Christian Nyampeta’s project at Sculpture Center will consist
of a number of “hosting structures”– a polyformal system of
inhabitable sculptural and functional prototypes. These
structures create a study room hosting a translation and
interpretation working group that will focus on making texts
by Rwandan philosopher Isaïe Nzeyimana available in English
for the rst time. The structures further hold a repository of
translations, a printer, publications, and a dossier of new,
current, and past sessions held with groups in Amsterdam,
Dakar, Johannesburg, Kampala, Kigali, Leipzig, Lubumbashi,
London, Maseru, and Mechelen. Guests, visitors, and other
members of the audience are welcome to make use of these
resources, attend the translation sessions, or simply use the
space during their visit to the museum.

MoMA PS1 and New York legend Susanne Bartsch are teaming up once
again for the eighth annual Halloween Ball. Be transported to the
infamous Valley of the Dolls, with outrageous live performances,
tableaux vivants, DJs, and the most elaborate costumes in the city. This
year’s spectacle is far from child’s play, with the VW Dome dolled up in
a kaleidoscopic riot of anarchic sex dolls, candy-popping nurses, and
beehived beauties.
Creatures from the Land of Thra: Character Design for The Dark
Crystal: Age of Resistance explores the process of designing the
fantastical characters for the new Netix series, a prequel to the
1982 lm co-directed by Jim Henson and Frank Oz. The exhibit
features a selection of concept art, maquettes, puppets, and
behind-the-scenes images, tracing the collaboration between
concept artist Brian Froud, who originated the world of Thra in
The Dark Crystal, and Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, which built the
puppets for the series. Highlights include the Hunter Skeksis, the
General Skeksis, a Fizzgig, and the All-Maudra and Seladon
Gelings, as well as a series of detailed maquettes, created by
Toby Froud, which were used as models for the characters.
