FROM THE EDITOR
Have you chosen your halloween cos-tume,
LIC readers?
While you get ready to trick-or-treat, we’re
providing you with a host of ideas for when
that sugar craving kicks in again. From cus-tom
cakes to homemade pies, we profile the
variety of talented Queens residents who
are baking up delectable desserts.
Queens book lovers can now order book
boxes from Astoria Bookshop, where book-sellers
personally select a new book every
month for bibliophiles.
We also profile a Queens native who is
trying to strengthen the borough’s music
community. John Belitsky plans to open a
music venue in a Long Island City ware-house
and plans to film live sessions there
as well.
If you’re looking to taste new brews,
we’ve spoken to Chris Cuzme and David
Scharfstein, the owners of Fifth Hammer
Brewing Company. The duo has years of
experience brewing their own beer and
decided to open a taproom at a warehouse
on 46th Avenue this month.
If you’re looking to explore local museums,
Socrates Sculpture Park is exhibiting a wide
variety of larger-than-life works as part of
the 2017 Socrates Annual. Take a selfie
with a statue of Abraham Lincoln or interact
with a huge, handmade basketball court.
Students across Queens were treated to
a surprise this school year, when the city
announced that it would expand its comfort
dog program. Now, children will be able
to interact with dogs to learn social and
emotional skills. We’ve got the photos to
illustrate just how cute these four-legged
friends are.
As always, you can read about the latest
in real estate and check out what’s hap-pening
in your neighborhood in terms of
art and comedy events. For any tips, email
amatua@qns.com.
