Orestes’ LIC BY ORESTES GONZALEZ

DOWNED TREE
I was in Miami when Hurricane Irma blazed its destructive path through
the city. Afterwards, the streets were impenetrable as old trees toppled
and made it difficult to navigate around the city.
I found this scene very interesting, as it’s
almost idyllic in its pastoral setting. Yet the fallen
40-year-old tree, toppled by its own weight
and 160 MPH winds, shows the strength and
violence that is capable of showing up almost
without warning.
