44advertorials AUTUMN AT THE Z HOTEL When I think of autumn in New York I think of shorter days, crisper air and the Z NYC Hotel buzzing with guests from around the globe. Not only do I feel the change of seasons but I feel a sense of excitement in the air. It could be the abundance of weekend excursions, whether it’s going to see the fall foliage or going pumpkin and apple picking, or it could be the buzz surrounding the quickly approaching holiday season but there is one thing I know, autumn has most defi nitely arrived. A lot of excitement I see at the “Z” are fall wedding groups. While summer is big with nuptials, fall seems to be even bigger. Perhaps it’s the great photo opportunities with the colorful autumn leaves or perhaps it’s the crisp cool air that makes being dressed to the nines more tolerable. There may be an even simpler explanation; the change of seasons is the ideal prelude to a change in life. I am very knowledgeable in all of the aspects of planning a wedding. My more than 20 years of experience in the hospitality industry combined with helping numerous family members plan for their big day has enabled me to be well-versed in organizing pre- and post-nuptial events. No detail can go overlooked from ensuring there are enough guest rooms for out of town relatives and coordinating a memorable rehearsal dinner to after-party events and the perfect brunch to wrap up the weekend. While no two bridal couples are the same, the preparation, questions and concerns are all too similar. My experience has always yielded answers for the bride and the number of events I have planned has given me a wealth of suggestions. It would seem to be second nature and easy – but that, unfortunately, is not the case. In late September I got engaged. With all my feelings of great joy and excitement came an overwhelming feeling of stress. The day I always dreamt of fi nally arrived. With all of my years in hospitality I know the ins and outs of planning a wedding so planning BEAUTY TIPS my own should be a fairly easy task. I quickly learned that it is not. Basic tasks need to be planned and planned quickly from picking a location and a date and then hoping the location you have selected has your desired date available. Once that legwork is complete, it is all surpassed with another task, one that should be fun but is otherwise taxing...THE DRESS! To be continued… Lisa Gneo, Director of Sales & Marketing, Z NYC Hotel LISA GNEO The fall is here!! Our little guy is enjoying his last days at Gantry Park before his fi rst snow fall and we are getting ready to turn our fl at into a playground. Our spa is preparing for the HOLIDAY SEASON. Yes, I said it, THE HOLIDAY SEASON. As an aesthetician I always think the holiday season equals dry skin season which equals exfoliation. I have been asked by my previous employer to help her teach some courses at her Esthetics Institute in Manhattan, and just in time for the season, the students are getting a course on peels. During this time of the year our skin changes just like our mood. But the great thing about the fall is that it is the time of year we can get rid of all the damage from our summer months, and then some. So what exactly is a peel? And my students have asked, what exactly is exfoliation? I will share with you the premise of their course. Peeling is natural; it is like a rebirth ritual. Why not use to our benefi t what has been the result of millions of years of evolution? Believe me, it’s worth it! Peels are a method of exfoliation that helps with our skin regeneration that slows down at the age of 27. This time of year is great for a peel because of the temperature outside. Summer months are hot and sticky, so getting a peel creates an even hotter sensation on the skin when the client leaves. There are many peels on the market that help with hyper-pigmentation from sun exposure, or age spots. Some peels allow the skin to shed, while other peels allow the skin to simply exfoliate itself and start to regenerate. Personally I was never a big fan of the “shedding experience,” not based on the results, but much more for the simple reason, that I do prefer treatments with no downtime. No reason to hide a week in your basement with a plastic bag over your head! You will now fi nd some excellent peelings based on glycolic acids where your old skin will not shed but literally dissolve. You can get one of these peels during your lunch break and go back to work two hours later without any inconvenience. You will achieve the same results and believe me it is much more comfortable. For peelings it is not about “no pain, no gain”, but much more less pain for more gain. Don’t get me wrong, your face will turn red and you will feel warm, but you will not have to go through the fi res of hell to improve your skin complexion. Peeling is a great instrument for skin renewal; however your new fresh skin will need special attention and protection. It is essential to moisturize more than ever and of course using day cream with SPF. Even better try to complete peelings with a regular facial and give your new skin all the nutritional ingredients it will take to maintain its radiant and soft complexion during the hard winter months. For the best results, I would recommend three peeling sessions during a period of three weeks. And one thing is for sure; afterwards, you will indeed need to buy a Halloween costume!
