Chastity!” On view from Sept. 20 through Jan. 4, 2016 Anthea Hamilton will feature new and existing works for her first solo museum exhibition in the United States. Investigating cultural appropriation and pop culture, Hamilton draws material from countercultures in music, fashion, and design (such as disco in the 1970s) and their entrance into the mainstream. Hamilton questions the representation of cultural phenomena through popular media in her sculptures and videos. A centerpiece of her exhibition will be “Project for door,” a new commission inspired by a model made by Italian designer Gaetano Pesce in 1972. Using experimental photographic processes and digital manipulation, the installation takes up the second and third floor galleries of the Center presenting 67 artworks by 28 artists. Artists include Gregory Crewdson, Matthew Barney, Andres Serrano, Inez Van Lamsweerde, James Casebere, Keith Cottingham, Fariba Hajamadi, Lynn Davis, Michel Francois, Vera Lutter, Shirin Neshat, Adam Fuss, and Barbaba Ess.
