■MIXING IT UP Late Summer Drinks Summer is coming to a close, which is always a bittersweet affair, but as Dr. Seuss once advised us: “Don’t cry because it’s over, be happy because it happened.” Either way, we still have a few weeks left anyway, so here are two late summer drinks that I recommend SASHA POGREBINSKY making for you and your friends to enjoy the remaining days in the usual lazy summer fashion. Sasha Pogrebinsky Mixologist / Restaurateur Bear 12-14 31st Avenue, LIC www.BearNYC.com Sasha is the owner of Bear Restaurant in Long Island City. Sasha’s first book “Rarely Known” was published in 2014 by Element Press and is available on Amazon. Ceylon Rum Iced Tea Ceylon is a rich and bold flavor for tea, it is found in most European food stores, and all over Astoria. Ahmad Tea’s have a wonderful selection of Ceylon tea. Add a spoon of organic agave 3. Squeeze half a lemon and half a lime 4. Mix in 2 oz of white rum 5. Shake well on ice, and strain into chilled glass with ice 6. Zest the glass with raw ginger, it will give it an unbelievable taste! Whiskey Slushie Carafe This drink is perfect for those late summer evenings, you can sip on this for a nice long time, and it will always leave you with great memories. Ingredients: 4-5 lemons 2 cups of strong tea 1/2 cup of organic agave 3 cups of whiskey 3 cups of water 1 cup of ginger ale 1 cup of orange juice (or raspberry juice) Directions: 1. Squeeze all the lemons into a large plastic container 2. Pour the remaining ingredients into the container and stir well 3. Place the container into the freezer for at least 20 hours 4. After that time, you can just scoop the slushie into your glass, garnish it with mint, lemon, and even whipped cream. Enjoy for hours!
