For this month’s front cover we have the “godfather of funk” himself George Clinton, who will be coming to Long Island City this summer to perform with Parliament Funkadelic at Queensbridge Park. He is just one of many artists filling our summer throughout the borough with music and the best part is that there is no charge to attend. So get ready to have a funky time! Along with checking out these performances, make sure to take a trip down to the LIC Flea & Food, which brings an array of unique vendors to the LIC waterfront. For the first time, the popular flea market has a beer garden offering selections from local breweries. Grab a glass, cool down and make sure to make the market, which is open every Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., your next weekend destination. We continue with our detailed real estate coverage with reporter Liam La Guerre, who keeps us up to date with everything and anything real estate related in your neighborhoods. This month, Liam brings us wonderful renderings of an environmentally friendly LIC building which broke ground on Earth Day, it is expected to be the most eco-friendly structure in the neighborhood. He also gives us an inside look at a former LIC factory building looking to create a retail and office hub. This month we bring you news of one Sunnyside playground reopening after being renovated to not only meet the needs of the surrounding community but also honor local veterans. We also welcome a new brewery to the community which plans to open a taproom this summer that will serve experimental beers. It officially opened during Queens Beer Week and we can’t wait to enjoy a glass of their beer! This issue also features updates on local subway lines, an award given to an LIC art institution for its preservation of a former trolley shop, and a new book providing an inside look on New York’s ongoing gang war. Don’t forget to share your findings with us, and send your ideas and feedback to our editor Angy Altamirano. We are looking for people doing great things in the community. We hope you get out and have some fun in the sun, and we’ll see you in the summer!
