Happy spring, LIC Courier readers!
We hope you’re hungry because this issue is
filled with information on new restaurants offering
mouth-watering goodies.
Hometown hero Nas opened his fifth Sweet
Chick location in Long Island City, not far from
where he grew up. The Queensbridge Houses native
offers a variety of chicken and waffles dishes,
desserts, cocktails and more at his restaurants.
If you’re looking to feast on some elevated
Greek food, visit Akrotiri in Astoria. Chef Nicholas
Poulmentis moved to Astoria from a Greek island in
2012 and serves up dishes like htapodokeftedes,
fried octopus with lemon dill aioli (the aioli is made
with Greek yogurt instead of mayo) and htenia,
scallops in a squid ink linguini pasta with a white
saffron emulsion.
Ice cream lovers will be excited to find that
Ample Hills Creamery is expanding to Queens. The
Brooklyn-based ice cream shop uses hormone-free
milk and cream from grass-fed cows and organic
cane sugar and are a registered dairy plant since
they pasteurize their milk in a factory in Brooklyn.
In Long Island City, Chef Preston Madson is
serving New American fare “with inflections of
Mediterranean, North African and Asian cuisine.”
The restaurant prides itself on serving sustainable
and seasonal items and many of its ingredients
are sourced from local farms.
Long Island City resident Joia Aliperti founded
cookie business Queen B. Sweets where she
makes spherical cookies, rainbow sweets and
highlights them on Instagram using raunchy, popcultural
captions. We talk to her about her journey
and her baking process.
