Soon, residents will have a new way to get around during nicer weather when Citi Bike expands to Astoria. Dozens of new stations will be installed throughout the neighborhood this summer and we’ve outlined where the stops will be. Once the stations are up and running, you’ll be able to visit the mobile library coming to the Long Island City waterfront. This bus of books will give residents a chance to browse through the Queens Library collection while the Hunters Point Library is under construction. In August, Citywide Ferry Service from Astoria to Manhattan (with stops in Long Island City) will begin. So residents will be able to sail the seas all year round for work and play instead of hoping on a train or bus. Dancers, choreographers, musicians and actors now have a new studio to practice and showcase their work. Wild Heart Performing Arts Studio was opened by an Astoria resident hoping to give artists a space of their own. Dance classes will be the main focus of the space but acting and music classes will also be offered as well as chances for artists to showcase their work. If you’re looking to get fit and strengthen your core, a new Pilates studio in Long Island City will teach students the classical form of the exercise. The studio is located on Jackson Avenue and is stocked with locally-made workout equipment. We also provide you with the latest real estate updates, art exhibits and fun events happening in western Queens. Feel free to send over story ideas to amatua@qns.com.
