As co-publisher of the magazine, I have had the opportunity to meet so many amazing people in Long Island City. We have all seen the community grow and prosper in many ways, from real estate development to the arts. The community has also come together in times of need including Sandy and the soon to be developed Hunters Point library. It’s our goal to be all about you, our readers, and cover all these happenings. One of the most dramatic changes to the neighborhood has been the face of the waterfront from the amazing parks to the new high-rise residential towers. It is my hope that the thousands of new residents moving into Long Island City will take the time to get to know their neighbors and explore all that LIC and Queens has to offer as well as shopping and dining locally. Do not be afraid to go out and discover LIC! We strive to highlight people, places, businesses and events, from artists to Mamma Gianna of Manducatis Rustica, in the communities we serve including LIC, Astoria and Sunnyside. We welcome and look forward to your feedback, story tips and ideas. In this issue we celebrated Women’s History Month, shining the light on two LIC female artists and an Astoria native making it big as a filmmaker in the Queens World Film Festival. We also sat down with a new chocolatier in the neighborhood looking to put your messages on their unique chocolate squares and celebrated the LIC business women group helping business women thrive in the community. Along with these extraordinary women, this issue also includes a family restaurant trying to bring back customers after Sandy, the renderings of the new residential buildings coming to Hunter’s Point South and events that have occurred in LIC in the p ast month. Myself and our new editor Angy Altamirano are constantly in the community searching for news and events, so please reach out to us and Publisher Victoria Schneps-Yunis Co-Publisher Joshua A.
