Long Island City Women in Business is a women’s business group founded by five successful members in the community. The “Founding Five” include Sheila Lewandowski of The Chocolate Factory Theater, Raquel Salas of Big City Graph-x & Printing, Donna Drimer of MattedLIC, Leslie Nilsson of Sage General Store and Gianna Cerbone-Teoli of Manducatis Rustica. Every month these women get together with other local business women at different venues, each being owned by women in the community, looking to share stories, ideas and tips on how to get the ball rolling. Each meeting has a different topic in which the women can learn about different aspects of the business world, from knowledge on labor laws, how to think outside the box and how to be “a smart business woman.” “It’s a support group to support women who are in the business,” said Gianna Cerbone-Teoli. “It’s amazing how everyone supports each other.” Men are not excluded to the meetings, some have attended and leave amazed at the unity of the women. Cerbone-Teoli recalls one man coming to her at her restaurant and saying “God, I can’t believe how unified you women are!” The group held their March meeting Tuesday, March 12 at Court Square Wine & Spirits hosted by Maegan Kovatch , the business’ general manager and Barbara Lynn Cantone, the founder of Body & Soul Restorations Inc. The next meeting is scheduled to be held on Tuesday, April 9. Long Island City Photos courtesy Gianna Cerbone-Teoli
